SR2100 Kentucky Bluegrass
(25% of Kremer's Bluegrass Mix)
SR 2100 Kentucky bluegrass is a unique Kentucky bluegrass developed for the needs of sod growers, sports turf managers and home owners. It is a vigorous, very aggressive variety with medium dark green color and good turf performance. SR 2100 has produced excellent results in sod tensile strength trials carried out by multiple universities and testing facilities.

Characteristics
SR 2100 shows good resistance to Summer Patch, Leaf Spot, Pythium Blight, and Red Thread and good recovery from Yellow Ring. It has shown excellent resistance to Dollar Spot, which combined with its drought tolerance and recovery make it a good choice for lower maintenance sites. The extensive rhizome development on SR 2100 sod gives it the ability to establish rapidly, withstand adversity and recover quickly. The high sod tensile strength allows sod containing this variety to be easily lifted and at a younger age. The sod will also establish rapidly when placed on site. SR 2100 has shown excellent drought resistance and rapid recovery. These traits are important for sod growers, home-owners and professional turf managers. The medium dark green color combined with its other characteristics makes SR 2100 Kentucky bluegrass ideal for inclusion in blends with other bluegrasses and perennial rye grasses. Good quantities of high quality seed are available.

History
SR 2100 is an advanced hybrid developed by Dr. C. Reed Funk of Rutgers University. The mother of SR 2100 was A80-336, an exceptionally vigorous hybrid from the cross breeding of A-25 and Touchdown. Both of these Kentucky bluegrasses are vigorous, aggressive turf-type selections from old turf sites on golf courses in Chicago, IL and Southampton, NY. A80-336 was pollinated by other Kentucky bluegrasses, including 'Baron' and 'Julia' varieties, in a greenhouse at Rutgers in late winter of 1985. An attractive hybrid (H86-683) was identified and released to Seed Research of Oregon for further evaluation. After much additional testing and analysis of the genetics, the apomixis level, the commercial seed yield potential and turf quality at numerous locations, the variety was released as SR 2100.
